Conditions of Learning in Action

Do You Ever Wonder What Your Teachers Do During the Early Releases?

Well, at Aldo, we strive to ensure that Brian Cambourne’s theory/practice/ideas of the “Eight Universal Conditions of Learning”are part of what we do, who we are, and how we walk along side children in their educational journeys’.

So What Are Universal Conditions of Learning?

Brian Cambourne, is an Associate Professor and head of the Language, Learning and Literacy Unit at the University of Wollongong. Cambourne concluded there are eight universal conditions for learning and these are used as a guide to create supportive learning environments in school.  These conditions include: demonstration, responsibility, approximation, response, immersion, expectation, engagement, and use/employment. Currently, he places the condition of engagement at the core of learning.

Getting Back to the Early Releases….

Simply stated - we practice our craft.  We work with experts outside of the building to improve our skills.  We work with the experts inside of our buildings to improve our skills, and we prepare to make every moment spent with your children as meaningful and primed for learning as possible.

During our last early release, the 3/4 unit led professional learning and allowed us to experience the “Eight Universal Conditions of Learning” by introducing us to an exciting new teaching tool. We were apart of the intentional and purposeful learning from a student’s perspective.  The results? Well, check it out below, and keep an eye out for student created videos coming soon!
